I was “made in China.”
My father was a US Air Force pilot and my mother worked for the military when they met and married in Nanking. Because of Dad's career, I was in schools all over the world. I was often put in the corner for fidgeting and daydreaming too much. No one knew about ADD then, but it would later prove to be the spark that ignited my imagination.
In college, I enrolled in trapeze classes. I became a stewardess for American Airlines and then worked at the American Embassy in Paris for the DIA ( military intelligence).
There, a boyfriend loaned me his camera and I shot my first real photos. When I went to pick up the proof sheet, the woman at the lab studied me and then said in a thick accent, “I sink you have a good eye.”
That was all I needed! I then declared to anyone who would listen “I am going to be a photographer!”
At the ripe old age of 28, I went back to school and studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. I worked hard and got lucky and spent the next 35 years as a fashion and advertising photographer.
In 2009, my partner Ron and I were chosen to compete on the CBS reality show, The Amazing Race. I realized what I was made of then.
I raised two daughters in San Francisco and they both are now in their twenties. One is a nurse. The other is an artist. Both are creative.
I shoot pictures the way I live …open, fresh, and optimistically.
I look forward to capturing the beauty I see in you!
